In relation to that, a person who tend to be grateful is often referred to as having a grateful heart.

To have a grateful heart means having a loving heart, and the heart becomes grateful due to past experience of being ungrateful.

Also, gratitude is known to be a virtue because you choose to embrace it, rather than relenting from it.

The virtue of gratitude is that which you can’t request or demand, you can only give it. Whether in comfort zone or not.

In addition to that, gratitude is a character trait and an emotion. It is a feeling of happiness you get from appreciation.

You can appreciate someone by:

  • Being empathetic
  • Saying “I love you”
  • Confinding in them
  • Complimenting them
  • Showing gratitude

The ways you can say gratitude to someone is using the words of gratitude appropriately.

These words of gratitude are:

  • Thanks.
  • Thank you.
  • I am indebted to you.
  • Dinner was delicious.
  • I appreciate you.
  • You are an inspiration.
  • I am grateful.

Why we should be grateful

I would like to start by telling you that gratitude is so powerful. Kind of the power of gratitude. Here’s why:

It strengthens your emotions, and as a result, it gives you happier memories, good feelings, reduces envy and coping with stress.

In other words, being grateful is important because it strengthens your emotions to have happier memories, good feelings, controlling envy and stress.

Also, scientifically, it has been proven that real gratitude often guarantees a better health.

The health features it impacts positively on are quality of sleep, immune system and cardiovascular bundles.

Other reasons why we should be grateful pertains relationship with people and how it eases life challenges in general.

With this, it can also help you to be more focus in whatever you do.

Note that irrespective of why we should show gratitude, a reason not to show it is not an excuse because there are always lots of reasons to do so.

Big things to be grateful for

If you say “Myself”, you’re not wrong at all. Although, that is not the only aspect you can be grateful for.

Sure, you’re amazing, you’re great, you love and care, but how about other BIG things you are missing?

However, being grateful for yourself is great, but I had rather say it’s the basic though before all others.

How to be grateful

Gratitude is true virtue, and it can never be defeated.

That’s why it makes real sense to say that you should form a habit of it

Haven known what it means to be grateful, why and what to be grateful for, let’s now jump into the how to.

1. Show attitude of gratitude

The first way to be grateful is for it to strongly reflect in your attitude.

You can hardly show gratitude if it doesn’t reflect on how you portray your attitude.

When we were kids, if we ask our parents to buy something for us and they do, our reactions showed we were grateful for what they did.

However, if mum and dad hadn’t bought it but gave us excuses, oops – our behavior alone would tell we didn’t like how we felt.

Real gratitude must reflect on how you treat others, approach things and how you behave.

You can’t be grateful and act like you are in disgust with everything that happens around you.

Look around and tell me you can’t find one or two things to be grateful for.

The air you breathe is enough reason to let you show sincere attitude of gratitude.

You must not scream and say how grateful you are. From the way you behave, it’s enough to show it.

You can ask everyone what they think about you and your level of gratitude, what you hear will determine your attitude of gratitude.

If you hear more negative thoughts about it, you know you have some work to do.

2. Practice it daily

If you practice it daily, it will become a habit.

In that case, you will need to make sure you put in enough effort to ensure you keep practicing it.

That’s the only way you can get used to showing it. Let it be a part of you every time and everywhere.

Although, at first, it may seem hard to keep up with, but with good discipline, it will be much easier.

Supposing it gets difficult though, with discipline, you will stick to it no matter how hard it may seem.

Many people don’t seem to understand what gratitude actually means.

However, they would have been able to know what it means and how to show it if they had practiced it daily.

Gratitude is really not a thing that you can just portray if you don’t let it become a part of you.

No matter how little you think you practice it, don’t let it die.

That little aspect of gratitude you show is going to transform into greater ones with time, as long as you keep practicing.

Just as practice makes perfect, if you form a habit of doing it daily purposely, you will end up doing it forever subconsciously.

3. Find out things you are grateful for

As long as you live, there are always things to show gratitude for.

If you don’t look past your worries and troubles and look for things to be grateful for, then there could be a problem.

The problem is that you will barely be able to find things that you can show gratitude for.

Little worries without being positive could make you get caught up with troubles, that it becomes hard to find things to be grateful for.

Whether those are things in your life, your family or friends, be grateful.

As long as it’s something that makes you glad and makes you think of how precious life is, it’s worth your gratitude.

Being grateful for every little thing makes you prone to showing gratitude.

Give up things that troubles you, then you will discover that finding out those things to show gratitude for won’t be a tough task.

Nobody wakes up in morning without having something he or she is grateful for.

So the easy task is to simply search deep, think and come with things to be thankful for.

Remember that for you to really appreciate people in your life, first, you have to appreciate what goes on in your life.

4. Appreciate everyday

Everyday is another opportunity for you to grow yourself and correct those things you wanted to get right.

Of course, many hope to see another day, but they didn’t have the opportunity to do that.

Everyday is a day to be thankful for, despite any challenge that may comes with it.

5. Appreciate people

You should not just appreciate people only when they do you a favor.

Sometimes, loved ones, real friends and well – wishers in your life is enough to appreciate people.

If you really understand that real friends are a blessing, then you would understand how important they’re in your life.

In that case, they’re worth saying thank you for being a real friend or thank you for being in my life.

However, if you can’t find ways to say it though, then it should reflect in your actions and attitude.

A simple respect for those real friends in your life really goes a long way to show you appreciate them.

Maybe you choose to do a favor or surprise them once in while, any can go, as long as you do it sincerely.

Same thing applies to your loved ones. If you don’t appreciate them, you may be left with no one to appreciate.

It’s also important you know that appreciating people in your life energizes you as well.

They will sense the appreciation and return the same.

Remember to use your gratitude words just as it was earlier stated. They should be used appropriately when it requires one.

It pays to appreciate people. As you do this, not only do you show your gratitude, you benefit from it as well.

6. Look at your present through the eyes of your future

The future is bright and definitely has a lot to give, greatness to bring and lots of achievements to present.

In that case, it requires you to look at your present through what the future holds in store for you.

In case you have been looking for hope somehow, doing this often is sure to give you some hope.

Picture it on your mind. Picture how great you know your future is going to be, and let it occupy your mind everyday in the present.

That way, you would be willing to show gratitude for everyday, knowing that you’re alive and getting closer to better days.

Although, you’re not there yet, but you’re closer than you were yesterday.

It’s understandable how well you know the words of gratitude, but you barely use them because of the situation on board.

You need to help yourself get over that by looking at your present through the eyes of your future.
