Have you been wondering what the causes of lack of motivation are? If you’re, then you’re in luck. In this article, you will know just that.
As important as it is for motivation to boost your willingness to do something, especially in behavior, so it is to know its causes.
If you lack motivation, it’s probably because there are things you aren’t doing right.
Most times, when you wonder why you haven’t got to where you always wanted to be, it’s simply because you’re not well motivated.
However, one way you can actually find this motivation is by getting rid of negative motivators.
When we talk about negative motivators, they’re nothing but those voices in your head you pay attention to.
Differences between positive and negative motivation in life
So let’s face it, there is the positive and negative motivation. The negative motivation is an example of why people lack motivation in life.
These negative motivators are those voices in your head that wrongly decides what your next moves or actions should be.
The positive motivators are those strong oppositional thoughts in your head that surpresses the negative motivators, and rightfully decides your next moves and actions.
Irrespective of that, until you conquer the battle on the inside, you can’t deal with that battle on the outside.
So what does that mean? It means that both the negative motivation and positive motivation are fighting for dominance in your head.
The one that conquer’s the other will have control over your moves, thoughts and actions.
In that case, you need to come up with “way to go” actions to support the positive motivators in conquering the negative motivators.
Examples of this nagative motivation includes:
- Replacing “I can” with “I can’t”
- Controlled by pains
- Unwillingness to continue
- Poorly selected routines
- Unbothered by failure and incomplete tasks
Examples of positive motivators includes:
- Willingness for continuity
- Striving to succeed and clearing up tasks
- Utilizing “I can” optimally
- Controlling your pains
- Using routines to work on goals / supporting goals
To recap, negative motivation directs wrongly, while positive motivation directs rightly.
And the negative motivation must be battled out by you, by replacing it with the positive motivation.
How can you build motivation in life?
Actually, the best way to motivate your yourself is to avoid the negative motivators.
If you aren’t able to do that, you will give room for the negative motivators, and won’t mind its negative effects on you.
Unfortunately, you just keep acting on those negative voices in your head.
But the bottom line is that if you lack motivation in life, it all boils down to the mindset at the end of the day.
However, the sure-fire way to keep your mindset motivated is to identify and get rid of the negative voices in your head.
So, to boost your motivation, the best place to start is to identify the negative voices in your head, as well as getting rid of the negative motivators.
This shows why similar findings to this explains why people with mental illness, such Schizophrenia are listening to negativities in their head.
Haven known that lack of motivation in life is basically caused by negative motivators, let’s see what those negative motivators are.
Crucial Causes of lack of motivation in life
If you really want to stay driven, positive and motivated, then it can be achieved when you avoid these five negative motivators.
Until we learn how to filter the negative voices from the positive voices in our heads, we only cause more harm to ourselves.
Below are five crucial causes of lack motivation.
1. The dictator
One of the major reason you lack motivation in life is because of the dictator.
That means in order to boost your motivation in life, it’s important you don’t let the dictator to have control over you.
When you let the dictator have control over you, then will you begin to lack sustainability, which in return makes you listen to those negative voices in your head.
For example, a negative motivaton word like ‘can’t’ is one of those dictators in your head that you often listen to, instead of the positive motivation word like ‘can’
The inability for you to maintain the positive motivation words makes you lose motivation.
You can see that both ‘can’t’ and ‘can’ determines what your next moves, thoughts or actions would be.
The negative dictator forces you to withdraw when you want to make an important decision. It’s a false voice in your head to reject.
So, the goal is to use the dictator to your own advantage. Recognize the negative dictators in your head and filter them out from the positive dictators.
Way to go?
It’s left for you to recognize those voices in your head that gives you wrong suggestions, then you get rid of them.
Be in total control of yourself. It’s a matter of you being able to control your thoughts and actions to make sure you reach your goal.
The best way to do that, however, is to see those negative voices in your head as negative motivators. That way, you will be able to have control of yourself.
From our examples earlier on, we saw that ‘can’t‘ is one of those negative motivators, while ‘can‘ is one the positive motivators.
In that case, figure out what your negative motivators are, and replace them with their opposites.
Instead of listening to the negative voices that withdraws you, replace them with positive voices that will keep you moving.
2. Over analyzing on the pain
Certain things that cause us pain are due to happen in life and you really don’t have control over them.
Over analyzing on things you can’t control makes you prone to listening to negative voices in your head, and acting on negative motivators – which brings us the first point.
So, to stay positive, motivated and focused at work, it’s important you don’t over analyze on any pain you could be going through, so that you don’t give room for negative dictators.
Another thing about over analyzing on the pain is that it begins to give you unecessary reasons to withdraw from valid decisions you made.
How you analyze on the pain also determines how your negative and positive motivation will turn out.
Over analyzing on the pain also triggers those feelings that makes you think life isn’t worth it, and it begins to act as a negative motivator.
Way to go?
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with analyzing on a pain. That’s what every normal human would do.
Even, I’m in support of the motion that when you’re hurt, think about it, cry if you have to, but quickly forget about it as soon as you do all these.
After which, start looking for solution to the pain as soon as possible.
That way, you begin to control how you analyze on any pain you’re facing.
Also, you begin to understand more that there are things in life we really can’t control, and that’s when you begin to control your thoughts.
Now, if you can control your thoughts, you should be just fine with being able to identify the negative motivators.
Don’t let your emotions get over you that you begin to act out of your emotions, not minding the consequences.
You can be super motivated when you’re in total control of your emotions.
3. Inconsistent actions
Ever wondered why achievers get to where they want? That’s because they’re consistent with what they do.
It also motivates them, because when they see progress in what they do, they can’t help but put more efforts.
Nothing kills the will to keep on doing something than inconsistent actions. The motivation to carry on dies off when you’re not consistent.
Get rid of those negative voices telling you every now and then to slow down with what you’re doing.
Consistent action is another sure-fire way to make sure you stay positive and motivated at work.
Way to go?
There’s no doubt, you have other fun things to do, but procrastinating relevant actions does no good to the goals you’re working on.
Likewise, being inconsistent does not give a boost to your morale in something you’re working on.
Sooner than you think, without even realizing it, your desire to keep on doing that thing will begin to fade, especially when you don’t have much passion for it.
So, in order not to give room for low morale that leads to lack of motivation, it’s important you stay consistent.
A typical example is a Footballer who has been on the bench for long. Because he’s not consistent in the pitch, his moral will be poor.
In that case, you can’t say he has the motivaton to play the game, unless he becomes consistent with playing Football in the pitch.
4. Unnecessary routines
Your routines should synchronize with whatever you’re doing. Get rid of those voices telling you to deviate from the right ones.
Logically, when you have a goal you’re working on, you’d rather engage in things that will help you achieve it.
We all know routines are things we love doing often as planned, which also helps us in growing ourselves.
When you engage in routines contrary to the goal you want to achieve, you’re literally screaming, “am not interested in my goal!”
Way to go?
Many people lack motivation in life as a result of engaging in routines that doesn’t charge them up to keep doing what they do.
In order for you to motivate yourself not to be lazy, start by doing the necessary routines you love, ranging from the tedious to non-detious ones.
That way, you will begin to get more hardworking as a result of being used to doing things are tedious.
This is one of those positive motivation features you can apply any time.
You will later thank yourself for doing those necessary routines you love that made you used to doing such things.
Now here’s the greater news: you will become motivated when you begin to see benefits from it as you get closer to your goal.
Even better when you finally achieve your goal.
5. Much resistance to things that matters
How an incomplete or undone task affect you is also important when it comes to being motivated.
In other words, if incomplete or undone task doesn’t affect you, then you will eventually lose motivation to do it.
You can only stay motivated to keep on doing that thing when you let you yourself to be affected if it’s not 100% complete.
Remember that feeling unaffected by something incomplete or undone is not positive. So if you don’t feel affected, you will give room for the negative motivation.
Therefore, it’s important you don’t misunderstand worrying about the things that doesn’t matter for the things that actually matters.
This will up set you up for a better approach when you deal with things, so that you can stay motivated as you do them.
Way to go?
Identify those things that matters in your life, then begin to feel affected when you notice you still haven’t got to where want.
Then when you have sorted these out, use the point 3 and point 4 to back it up.
Also, while you make effort to get rid of the resistance to things that matter, it’s important you avoid the limitations of comfort zone.
When you master this art, then you will notice that the rest of the of the “way to go” actions for staying motivated will begin to fall in place.
If things that matters doesn’t affect you when it’s not completed, then you won’t feel motivated to do it.
Lack of motivation in life has to do with the type of motivation that conquers the other in your head.
While the negative motivators and positive motivators are the two determinants, one is harmful, and that one is the negative motivator.
Identify and get rid of those negative motivators in your head, so that you can build your motivation.
Utilize the “way to go” strategies so you can scale through the toughness that comes with overcoming the negative motivators.
All through, as you practice and act on the positive motivators, you will eventually notice you no longer lose motivation.Let's connect
